Kathy Najimy and Annette O’Toole will star in the Flea Theater’s world premiere of A. R. Gurney’s Heresy. Directed by Jim Simpson, the new comedy begins its limited off-Broadway engagement on September 29, with an official opening set for October 11. The production will run through November 4.
In addition to Najimy (Sister Act) and O’Toole (TV's Smallville), Heresy will star Reg E. Cathey (The Wire), Ariel Woodiwiss (It's a Wonderful Life) and Steve Mellor (Nixon’s Nixon). The cast also features newcomers Tommy Crawford and Danny Rivera, members of The Bats, The Flea’s resident company of actors.
Set in the near future, Mary (O'Toole) and Joseph (Mellor) have come to Homeland Security because their protesting son, Chris, has been taken into custody during the latest crackdown. They put their case before Pontius Pilate (Cathey) and comedy ensues.
Heresy will feature set design by Kate Sinclair Foster, lighting design by Brian Aldous and costume design by Claudia Brown.
